Wesley H. Roberts

Wesley H. Roberts, age 67, passed away peacefully after a long battle with ALS, on July 3, 2022 at home surrounded by family. Wes was born in Devils Lake, ND on September 4, 1954, to Bud and Kitty Roberts. He and his siblings had a very unique and adventurous upbringing, living in the Great Northern Hotel. After about 15 years of running his own bar, R-Place, Wes married Stephanie and began working as a Financial Advisor. After Daniel was born, Wes seized the opportunity to start Edward Jones up in Alaska, beginning in Soldotna. He and Stephanie raised their three kids in Anchorage for over 20 years. Wes was a big part of the community in Anchorage through his music, hockey, friendships, and Edward Jones. Eventually, Wes and Steph moved back to the midwest to be closer to family. Being the extroverted and friendly man he always has been, Wes quickly created a large network of friends in St. Paul and Hastings. He continued to play hockey, play guitar and sing, run marathons and triathlons, and make new friends every day. He did all of the things he loved to do, for as long as he was able, especially attending Minnesota Wild hockey games. When his children were young, Wes would drop them off at the hockey rink and say, “You are my buddy and I love you,” which he creatively turned into an acronym: YAMBAILY. This acronym has always been used between Wes and his wife and kids, and was quickly picked up by family and friends. This acronym, and the fact that it is used by so many people today, exemplifies the impact that Wes had on everyone he met. Wes had a strong faith in God, which helped him gracefully live out the two years that he battled ALS. Wes is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Kitty; his brother, Patrick; and step father, Bob Wells. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; and his children, Daniel, Ryan and A.M.; his brothers, Wilson and Bruce; and his sister, Meredith; as well as many other relatives and friends. Wes told his family several times that he would want friends and family to wear their YAMBAILY t-shirts to his celebration of life. A Celebration of Wesley's Life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street in Hastings. Words of Remembrance will be shared at 3:00 PM. On September 4, A Celebration of Life with music and stories will be held from 2 pm - 5 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Devils Lake, North Dakota, 522 4th St. NE, Devils Lake, ND 58301.
