Walter S. Fields, III “Dubs”
age 86, of Rosemount passed away on Dec. 23, 2022. Born Jan. 2, 1936, in Kilgore, TX, he was the only child of Jodell Pierce & Walter S. Fields, II. He entered the Navy in 1958 and flew as a fighter pilot, ultimately attaining the rank of Captain. After retiring from active duty, Dub began his career as a commercial airline pilot with Braniff International. He flew for Braniff until its bankruptcy and later flew for Midway Airlines and United Airlines. Dub was active as a Boy Scout Cubmaster when his sons were young and, in later years, sang with The Velvet Tones, a senior choral group. He loved traveling around the U.S. and the world. Dub also had a passion for gardening, especially for the peppers he used, to make his fiery hot sauces. He had many friends and entertained them with his sense of humor and his engaging stories.
He is survived by his wife, Helene; children: Stephanie Brace, Walter S. Fields IV, and Brian Fields; and stepchildren: Scott Wagner (Corinne), Brenda Wagner and Dana Wagner. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Roxanna and Christine Brace; Cody Fields; Blake, Brady and Joe Wagner; Shay and Camryn Canning; August and Thomas Godfrey. Survivors in Texas include his stepmother Charlene Fields and half-sister Laura Norris. There will be a private service for immediate family only and he will be interred at
Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
