Walter “Walt” Hildery Byers II
Devoted Husband and Father
Walt Byers, age 74, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson's disease on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at his Rosemount home with his family by his side.
Walt was born September 7th, 1949, in Sioux City, Iowa to Walt and Beryl Byers. Walt was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and all things nature. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family playing card games, listening to music, watching classic westerns, baseball, golf, and dancing with his wife, Rozanna. Walt also loved coaching sports, being involved in the community and telling stories of all the trouble he caused growing up. He always had a sassy one liner or dad joke to tell. He was known by family and friends to be a notorious chocoholic who proudly passed down his sweet tooth to his grandsons.
Walt served his country in the Navy from 1969-1975. He was an electrician on fuel tankers where he spent much of his military career in the Mediterranean. He was a Master Electrician for large industrial manufacturers and could fix anything you put in front of him.
Walt is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Rozanna Byers (Keane); his children, Walt Byers and Jenny Blake; son-in-law, Tom Blake; his grandsons, Parker and Jackson Blake along with many other cherished family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents (Walt and Beryl); five siblings (Mike, Bunny, Robert, Marilyn and Brady); mother and father-in-law (Beatrice and Cletus); and sister-in-law (Maggie).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street, Hastings with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. followed by a memorial and luncheon. Card and board games will be available to play in Walt’s honor.
