Lewellyn "Wally" Stoffel, age 93 of Hastings, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Hastings Senior Health and Living.
He was born April 5, 1929 in Hastings, Minnesota to Marcus & Mary (Marschall) Stoffel, attended country school house through 8th grade at Vermillion Township District No. 35, and proudly worked his family farm, which today is being farmed by the 5th generation. On September 3, 1956 Wally married, Bernadette "Bernie" Yetzer, after meeting at the Prom Ball Room and to this marriage they raised five children.
Wally was a dedicated and hard working father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was very proud of his Century farm and was active in the community by serving on the Dakota Stanton Board, becoming an election judge, Vermillion Township Board member and honorably issued burning permits in Vermillion Township to everyone with a firm handshake and good conversation.
He enjoyed going for a ride through the country side, his daily walk which lead to seeing friends and neighbors, and growing and sharing his garden vegetables and selling raspberries. Wally will be remembered for always having a good pen and lemon drops to share and will be greatly missed by many.
Wally is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bernie; children, Barb (Jerry) Bauer, Greg (Cheryl Bonderson) Stoffel, Lewellyn "Mark" (Lori) Stoffel and Jean (Dave) Beskau; grandchildren, John (Shannon) Bauer, Matt (Megan) Bauer, Andy Bauer, Jaclyn (Ryan) Hansey, Brian Stoffel, Jason Stoffel, Katie (Will) Esser, Sara (Joe) Lawler, Jaime (Scott) Addyman, Alex (Dan) Williams; great-grandchildren Grayelyn, Tucker, Bentley, Camden, Troy, Leah, Harlow, Nolan, Archie, Blake, Max, Reese, J.J., Macy; siblings, Martha Greten and Rita (Bob) Zignego; and by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dan Stoffel; siblings, Jerome (Delores) Stoffel, Jervis (Cecelia) Stoffel, Lawrence (Helen) Stoffel, Norbert (Lucille) Stoffel and Mary Katherine (Tony) Werner.
Mass of Burial will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation two hours prior to Mass at church on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Vermillion in memory of Wally.
