Timothy "Tim" W. Nelson

Timothy (Tim) W Nelson, 58 years old passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Tim was born in Duluth Minnesota to Kennth and Dorthy (Grindle) Nelson. He moved to Cottage Grove, MN when he was in elementary school and graduated from Park High School class of 1982. Tim was a naturally gifted craftsman who could build or fabricate anything. He loved working on cars and trucks. Tim met the love of his life Kristi Mingo in 1991 and they were married September 11th of 1993, together they had a son Dylan (Brittany) Nelson, a daughter Mariah (James) Longhenry and daughter Kassidy (Wes Bray) Stockman. His children were the light of his life. Tim had a God given natural talent for working on cars ever since he was a young boy. In 2002 Tim and Kristi opened Tim’s Repair Shop, Inc. where together they worked side by side until June of 2020 when they sold the business and retired, Tim’s retirement lasted exactly 8 months and he decided he needed go back to work. He started out working part-time for South Saint Paul schools and eventually went to work full time for Marsden Services where he was assigned to work at Hamlin University. Tim was very active in the South Suburban Fireside Area and had many hobbies, knife making, welding, and car repair and restoration. He was a huge Marvel and DC enthusiast. We are asking people to wear some kind of Marvel or DC clothing, shoes, hat, or jewelry item to his services. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Kenny and Dorothy, brother Jeff, nephew Jamison and step brother Tommy Watkins. He is survived by his wife Kristi, children Dylan (Brittany) Nelson, Mariah (James) Longhenry, Kassidy (Wes) Stockman, granddaughter Evelyn (Evie) Read Nelson and granddaughter number 2 due in November, brother Brian Nelson, sister Kristen (Matt) Schultz, step-sister Nevada Goans, and step-brother Bobby Watkins; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 31 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 1 at Crossroads Church of Hastings with visitation from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. in the church, prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel.
