Thomas "Tom" Krueger

Thomas (Tom) T. Krueger, age 91, formerly of Hastings, passed away peacefully on March 3rd after a courageous 11-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Preceded in death by mother, Doris; and by his siblings, Mary Lou, Robert (Bud), Richard (Dick), William, Helen and James (Jim).

Tom is survived by loving wife of 64 years, Betty; children, Kathy (Ted) Zwieg, Robert (Robb) and Kara (Jamie) McCarthy; grandchildren, Ted (Emma) Zwieg Jr, Madeline and Grace McCarthy; great-granddaughter, Henley Zwieg; sister, Charlotte Ann; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Benora; and many nephews, nieces and friends.

Tom was born in St. Paul and was graduated from Washington High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Sicily and the USS Norton Sound during the Korean War. Tom was very social and a people person by nature, making lifelong friends everywhere he and Betty traveled. His family was very important to him; you could always find Tom attending his children’s events and volunteering with Trinity Lutheran Church, Saint Croix Lutheran Academy, and the Elmhurst Cemetery Board, continuously putting others and service before himself. Tom enjoyed a career with the State of MN, Department of Vehicle Services where he retired as supervisor of their driver’s examination stations. He and Betty then enjoyed 20 wonderful winters in Mesa, AZ, meeting up with old friends and making many new ones.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, March 10, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 202 8th Street West, Hastings, MN, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am. Interment to follow at Elmhurst Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, Saint Croix Lutheran Academy or donor’s choice.

Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
