Thomas Helfman

Thomas J. Helfman, age 46 of Inver Grove Heights, died suddenly but peacefully at home on Saturday evening, September 23, 2023.

Thomas Joseph, the son of James and JoAnn (Ayd) Helfman, was born on April 13, 1977, in Inver Grove Heights. Following his graduation from Simely High School, Thomas pursued his education and love for Technology. After meeting online, Thomas was united in marriage to Amanda Young on October 11, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier. Even though their time together was short, they enjoyed dining out, traveling, going to movies, and riding e-bikes together. Thomas was a longtime employee of West St. Paul School District where he was proud to be part of the IT Department. No matter the question or the situation, Thomas was always the one to find the answer and often referred to Google for support. Whenever time allowed, he also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Rice Lake Wisconsin. Most of all, he loved Amanda, and was so thankful that she was the highlight of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, James; sister, Theresa Helfman; and by his grandparents, Clarence "Sam" and Maxine Helfman and Gilbert and Alice Ayd.

Tom is survived by his wife of almost ten years, Amanda; mother, JoAnn Helfman; siblings, Michael (Mattie) Helfman, Steven (Lisa) Helfman, and Jean Helfman; mother and father-in-law, Kermit and Ellen Young; brother-in-law, Eric (Maureen) Young; nieces and nephews, Lydia Helfman, Marin Helfman, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Helfman, Vincent Young, and Jade Young; and by other relatives and many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier, with Father Mike Tix officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and to a reception immediately following the graveside service, all at church on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, Thomas' family requests you send an arrangement to a family member or friend for them to enjoy in his memory.
