Susan A. (Flom) Wellman

Susan A. Wellman (née Jeppesen), age 91 of Brainerd and formerly of Hastings, died peacefully at Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center on Tuesday evening, January 9, 2024.

Susan Ann, the daughter of Ole and Anna (Jensen) Jeppesen, was born on June 26, 1932, in Bostick, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Everett Flom in March 1954. Susan and Everett traveled the country for his job and lived in Wichita, Kansas, North Hollywood, California, and Danbury, Connecticut. She was sadly widowed in 1964 and moved to Hastings, MN where she raised 3 boys with the support of Everett’s extended family. Susan was well known to many in the area when she became the longtime Food Service Director of the Hastings School District.

On March 16, 1984, Susan was joyfully united in marriage to Francis B. Wellman (d. 2017) with whom she shared 33 years of love, kindness, adventures and unceasing wit. Together they travelled the world and spent precious time with family and friends in Minnesota, Arizona, and beyond.

Susan was a devoted and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Her indomitable strength encouraged those who knew her to persist in the face of hardship. She was a tireless caregiver, talented chef, and skilled baker; passions which she passed on generously and which will endure for generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, and siblings, Sylvia Cox, Marian Andersen, Donna Benson, Evelyn Sweet, Betty Smith, and baby sister Shirley Ann Jeppesen.

She will be greatly missed by all who survive her including her three sons, Eric (Paula) Flom, Terry (Lidy) Flom, and Kirk (Jenny) Flom, eight grandchildren and their partners, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Susan's family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Edgewood Vista for their warmth and the attentive care they offered in her final years.

A Celebration of Susan's Life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 20, 2024, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., and to a reception following the graveside prayers, all at the funeral home on Saturday.
