Sharon Swanson, age 79, of Hastings, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024 as family surrounded her, and the words of the Lord’s Prayer were spoken.
Born the second of six children to Joseph & Grace (Freese) O’Brien, Sharon graduated from Hastings High School in 1963 and worked for Dakota County for nearly 40 years. At just 14 years old she met John “Jack” Swanson and they were later married in the spring of 1966. Together Sharon and Jack had three children and remained in Hastings to raise their family.
Sharon loved flower gardening, cooking, reading, and traveling when she could. She enjoyed many trips with the Hastings Senior Center both locally and around the country. Sharon had a quick wit and a sense of humor that always kept you on your toes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Joe and Grace; and brothers-in-law, Ron Johnson and Tom Swanson.
Sharon is survived by her children, Kimberly (Daniel) Mann, Melissa (Joseph) Leko, Michael (Julie) Swanson; grandchildren, Nicholas (Marissa) Mann, Joshua Mann, Makalya Leko, Jacob Leko, Vivyann Swanson, Everett Swanson; siblings, Barbara (Larry) Bliss, Linda Johnson, Kenneth O’Brien, Thomas O’Brien, and Peggy Youngblom.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 400 W. 9th Street, Hastings at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the time of the service. Interment will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery, Hastings.
Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
