Sharon A. Mathews, age 81 of Hampton, died suddenly but peacefully at home on Sunday morning, August 13, 2023.
Sharon Ann, the daughter of Raymond and Marcella (Doffing) Erickson, was born on June 16, 1942, in Hampton. Following her graduation from Hastings High School, Sharon continued her education at St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester where she graduated with a degree in nursing. On September 11, 1965, she was united in marriage to Thomas Richard "Dick" Mathews at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton, and they were blessed with four children. Sharon was a longtime Registered Nurse in the Hastings area, first at the Minneapolis VA Hospital, then Cannon Falls Hospital, and finally at Regina Medical Center until her retirement. As a pillar of the community, Sharon also taught many first aide and community classes over the years too. Sharon and Dick were dedicated members of St. Mathias for many years, and often volunteering as a lector or wherever they could. She cherished the time spent with her family, especially watching her grandchildren's sporting events both locally and across the United States. Over the years, Sharon also enjoyed entertaining friends and family in the back yard around the pool.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Thomas Mitchell in 1994; brother, Wayne Erickson; and by her nephew, Steven Erickson.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Dick; daughters, Kris (Jamey) Mathews Wojciechowski, Kelly Goodman, and Molly (Dan) Thompson; grandchildren, Ashley (Luke) Bushman, John Houle, Bennett Solomon, Bryan Solomon, Emily (Stephen) Haynie, Kate Thompson, Maddie Thompson, and Andrew Thompson; two great grandchildren, Harper and Theo Bushman with another one due in October; siblings, Dr. Larry (Becky) Erickson and Donna Driscoll; sister-in-law, Jean Erickson; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.Friday evening, August 18, 2023, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hasting. There will not be a visitation at church on Saturday morning. Immediately following the burial, everyone is invited to a luncheon reception at church.
In lieu of flowers, Sharon's family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the donor's choice in her memory.
