Seraphine “Sara” (Braun) Ritt

Seraphine “Sara” (Braun) Ritt, age 88 of Hastings, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Sara’s faith, grace, and strength allowed her to go peacefully to the Heaven she envisioned where she is now reunited with her beloved husband Adolph, son James, and granddaughter Hannah.

Seraphine was born October 30, 1935, in Linton, ND to Zacheus and Amalia (Schreiner) Braun.

As a young woman, Sara entered Our Lady of Fatima Hall in Dayton, OH, aspiring to be a Sister. A visit home for Christmas changed those plans when she went to a dance and met her charming Adolph. Although her path changed, her devotion, faith, and love never wavered. Her family is forever grateful to be the recipients of that inner strength and light. She married Adolph Ritt on October 23, 1958. While raising a family, Sara held various jobs outside the home. For many she will be remembered for her years at Hallmark where friends and customers could always count on a sincere welcome. She made everyone feel special, loved, and accepted. She found joy tending to her gardens, listening to music, and gathering with family; especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospice and Cassia, in Hastings, for their compassionate care.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph; son, James; granddaughter, Hannah; sisters and brothers.

Sara is survived by her children, Cheryl (Peter) Rosch of Hastings, David (Elizabeth) Ritt of Fridley, Susan (Mark) Evenson, Michael (Jean) Ritt, Brian Ritt, Stephen Ritt, and Christopher (Michelle) Ritt, all of Hastings; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relative, and friends.

A memorial service for Sara will be held Sunday, December 10th at 1:00 PM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel with a visitation from 11:00 - 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Grace Hospice and Hastings Senior Health and Living.
