Richard Carl Johnston
June 20, 1963 - November 30, 2022 Our dear son, father, grandfather and brother, Richard (Rich) Carl Johnston, passed away in his sleep on November 30, 2022 in Hastings, MN at the age of 59. He was born in Ogden, UT on June 20, 1963, to Dale Thomas and Norma Jeane Page Johnston.
Rich was raised in Perry, UT. He graduated from Box Elder High School in Brigham City, UT. He received a BS in Computer Science from Utah State University while working at Morton Thiokol. He married April Morton in 1985, and welcomed Nicole. They were later divorced. He married Shelly Wegener and welcomed Dustin, Megan and Logan. They were later divorced.
In 1998 they moved to Minnesota, where he worked for IBM, Lockheed, Silicon Graphics and at other businesses, most recently at Holiday Station Stores in Hastings.
Richard's pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He was most happy spending time with them creating lasting memories. He often sent his children "dad jokes" as a way to stay connected. He always wanted to make others smile. His wonderful laugh will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in a variety of callings including scouting and Elders Quorum.
He enjoyed playing golf, which he learned from his father. Rich was a devoted friend and had many. He had a large collection of movies and music which he loved to watch and share. He could hilariously recite extended dialog in character, entertaining family and friends. He was also known for his excellent cooking, especially his grilling. He regularly cooked for his friends, family and Church missionaries.
He is survived by his mother, Norma; brothers, Lindy (Cindy), Tom (Mary Jo); sister Sheri Johnston Cook; children Nicole Vaughan (Ashton), Dustin, Megan and Logan; Grandchildren, Carlos and Katelyn Sullivan. He is preceded in death by his father, Dale.
