Patrick Joseph Scully Sr., a loving husband, father, and grandfather died peacefully at Regina Senior Living on Wednesday morning, April 3, 2024, at the age of 98. Pat was a former longtime Dakota County Commissioner, businessman and friend to many.

Patrick, the son of Michael and Mary (O'Donovan) Scully, was born on February 19, 1926, in Dunowen, Ardfield, County Cork, Ireland. He immigrated to the United States in 1953. He settled in St Paul, MN where he met the love of his life, Carol Johnston in May 1954 at an Irish-American Club They were married on October 15, 1955. They settled in Hastings in 1958.

As a Dakota County Commissioner, Pat became instrumental in developing the Dakota County Parks system, especially what we now know as Schaar's Bluff. Additionally, he ensured the County Seat would remain in Hastings and led the effort to purchase the land and build the current Dakota County Government Center. He was also a union steward at Hamm's Brewery and Great Northern Oil, now known as Flint Hills, active in the DFL party, and a Metropolitan Council Board Member.

Outside of his political career, Pat was a co-owner in Hastings Sanitary & Disposal for 27 years. He loved to garden, often times planting way more than was ever needed! Anyone that knew Pat also knew that his yard was perfectly manicured with straight lines and perfectly cut grass too. He was a longtime Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Member in St. Paul, Hastings, and Vermillion. Pat and Carol were fortunate to own a home back in Ireland and have created countless memories with family and friends there over the years, and are blessed to still have family enjoy this heritage today.
