Patricia Ann Sanderson, age 83, of Hastings passed away October 1, 2023.
Patricia was born on 4/21/1940, in New Ulm, MN. She was a vibrant, compassionate, fun, and caring person. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many. Her passions and talents were plentiful, and included quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She created many beautiful items, most of which were made, with love, for gifts or charity. What a treasure to get one of her quilts! She enjoyed tending a beautiful garden, canning its bounty, making bread, cooking. She co-authored a couple of cookbooks and was able to attend a cooking school in Paris for a short while. Every meal was amazing, but she would say, “it’s just a simple dinner.”
She graduated from nursing school with an RN degree from Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. While in college, she met Duane Sanderson on a blind date at the MN State Fair. They were married on, October 27, 1962, when he was home for a very short weekend from the Navy. After the wedding, she spent her honeymoon driving to Newport, Rhode Island with her mom to meet up with her new husband. They eventually made it to San Diego, where Duane was stationed, and where she worked a surgical nurse and had her first child, little Lisa Kelly. They eventually settled in Hastings, MN, where they made their home, and had two more children, Kris and Scott. The family moved to Antwerp, Belgium on two occasions, due to Duane’s work with 3M, where she was able to explore, continue learning, and made some true lifelong friends.
In Hastings, she worked as a nurse at Haven Homes, Regina Nursing Home, and Regina Assisted living. She also worked for a few years as a ski instructor at Welch Village and at Spiral Natural Foods. She enjoyed time with family, being in her cozy home, going to the cabin, and spending a few winters down in AZ with Duane after retirement. She was often sitting at the dining room table with her old black singer sewing machine, putting together a kaleidoscope of quilts. Never idle, hands always working, always helping, always creating.
She loved the Lord and was a woman of tremendous faith. She spent many hours at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hastings, MN, working with the alter guild, funerals, luncheons, and anywhere she was needed. She loved her bible study group, her sewing and quilting groups, and fellowship with friends.
She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She had three very lucky children and four grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son, Scott Sanderson; her parents, Erna and Alton Borchert; and her sister, Marilyn (Borchert) Olson.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Duane Sanderson, children, Lisa (Paul) Phillips, and Kristine Pini; grandchildren, Ryan Sanderson, Adam Sanderson, Jade Pini, and Sierra Pini; brother, Roger (Lynn) Borchert; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She will be deeply missed, but her love and kind spirit will never be forgotten.
