Mikayla Rose Swanson

Mikayla Rose Swanson, 32, of Red Wing, MN, passed away on May 11, 2024. She was born on April 17, 1992, in Hastings, MN, to David Duren and Roseann “Rosie” Swanson.

Mikayla loved cooking, especially baking. She got her artistic gene from her mother and grandmother. She enjoyed drawing, painting, writing poetry, and doing crafts with her daughter, Ryella. She enjoyed everything outdoors from camping, fishing, nature walks, to catching butterflies, fireflies, bugs, turtles, frogs, caterpillars, and even snakes. She loved helping on the farm in Kansas with the cows, pigs, and chickens. She got her love of gardening from her grandmother, Gladys. Her favorite flower, of course, was the rose. She loved to sing and dance from the time she could talk and walk. She had a beautiful voice. She had recently purchased a guitar and was teaching herself how to play. And yes, even dancing in the rain.

Most of all, she loved her children and family and her many brothers and sisters from other mothers and fathers and her many friends. She liked taking selfies and journaling and sharing her pictures on Facebook. She had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up a room. She loved to make people laugh. Although she battled depression most her life, she tried every day to make the best of it. Sadly, she lost her battle and took her own life on May 11, 2024.

Mikayla is survived by her beautiful children, Lee’ahna, Jermaine, Elijah and Ryella; her mother, Rosie; her siblings, Jordan Swanson, Michael Duren, Elizabeth Duren, Jaylene Jahnke, Jessica Larson; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, David Duren.

A celebration of life will be held on June 29th, 2024 at 6:00 PM at the American Legion in Hastings, 50 Sibley St, Hastings, MN 55033.
