Margaret "Maggie" Hicks

Margaret "Maggie" Hicks, 75, of Hastings passed away unexpectedly and comfortably at home on June 22, 2023.

Margaret Elizabeth was born September 15, 1947 to Michael and Viola (Zimmerman) Schaack the 4th of 10 children. Mag graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1965 and received her degree from the College of Saint Benedict.

On July 18, 1970 she married Marvin "Skip" Hicks at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church and together raised their two children.

She was a dedicated substitute teacher for many years in Hastings, and worked retail in the crafting department.

Maggie loved sharing stories with everyone she met and was a talented crafter, sewer and artist. She loved sending cards to friends and family near and far with always a little special "glitter". Maggie taught community ed classes as well for many years to continue sharing her talents.

Her potato salad was amazing and never had a written recipe, she loved her family with all her heart and valued the field trips! Her kind soul will be missed and her reminder to "Be Nice" will not be forgotten.

She is survived by her children, Bridgett Hicks and Jim (Jes Herzfeld) Hicks; favorite granddaughter, MacKenzie; proud grandmaw to, "Maizy Ann"; siblings, Barb (Dave) Kaminski, Ken Schaack, Pat (Dale) Sleiter, Ron (Kathy) Schaack, Jerry (Rosie) Schaack, Steve (Cindy) Schaack, Janelle (Paul) Tinucci; sister-in-laws, Rose and Barb Schaack with other dear relatives and friends.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin "Skip", brothers, Rich Schaack and Dennis Schaack.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday, June 28 at the Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Thursday, June 29 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church of Hastings, with one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel is assisting the family.
