Leslie A. “Les” Flugum, age 74 of Burnsville, died suddenly but peacefully at home on Saturday evening, February 8, 2025.
Leslie Allan, the son of Howard and Eileen (Cox) Flugum, was born on July 27, 1950, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Following his graduation from Albert Lea High School with the class of 1968, Les continued his education at the U of M where he studied and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Les began his longtime career with Lockheed Martin where he oversaw many projects until his retirement in 2024. Even after his retirement, Les continued to work as a contract Electrical Engineer with Lockheed Martin right up to the time of his passing.
On April 14, 1973, Les was united in marriage to Lenore Luckow in Mahnomen, Minnesota. They were blessed with two children, Allison and Jeff, as well as five grandchildren, all of whom Les loved dearly. In their younger years, Les and Lenore enjoyed camping with the kids and friends. He also enjoyed playing softball with his work colleagues. Les had a passion for golf, and never missed the chance to get on the course whenever he could. In his free time, Les enjoyed volunteering with many organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Dakota County Historical Society, Minnesota State Robotics, as well as serving as an Election Judge. Les served as a board member for the Lockheed Martin Retirement Association. Regardless of how busy Les was working or volunteering, he never missed the chance to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Les is survived by his loving wife fifty-one years, Lenore; children, Allison Boyd and Jeff (Ali) Flugum; grandchildren, Connor, Cassidy, and Keira Boyd, and Emma and Kullen Flugum; siblings, Manville (Brenda) Flugum, Gwen (Ed) Plantage, Ted (Wendy) Flugum, Tim (Deborah) Flugum, and Sandy (Dan) Reese; sisters-in-law, Myrna (Jim) Stroschein and Vickie (Dale) Johnson; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
A Celebration of Les’ Life will be held on 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 7800 150th Street West, in Apple Valley, with Pastor Sarah Rohde officiating.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, February 26, 2025, at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley, and for one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday morning.
In lieu of flowers, Les’ family kindly requests memorials be designated to the American Heart Association, The Raptor Center, or to the donor’s choice in his memory.
