Ladislav “Les” I. Hursky, age 77 of Hastings, passed away at home with his wife by his side on October 29, 2024.
Ladislav III was born on November 8, 1946, in Spokane, WA to Ladislav Jr. and Doris (Thiemens) Hursky. Within the year of him being born, they moved to South Whittier, California where he spent most of his childhood. He spent a lot of time by the ocean as his parents used to bring him there every Sunday.
In 1964, he graduated from Arroyo Grande Union High School, and enlisted in the Navy shortly after. He served two years in the Navy during the Vietnam war, working in the sonar radar area, and studied electronics at the US Naval station.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he had many job opportunities in California, but he said, “something told him to come up here” (to Minnesota). After moving to Minnesota, he ended up working at Univac (Unisys) for 26 years as an electronic tech for their mainframe computers. This is where he met his wife, Margery Pinz, and immediately filled the role as father to Lisa. After Unisys, he worked for Century Link as an outside technician, then worked in the billing department. He worked for them for about 20 years before semi-retiring, working as a bus-aid for the Hastings school district until the last year of his life.
Les was a gentle and kind spirit who always liked to help others. He loved animals, working on his yard, and interacting with children. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping, hiking, swimming, and biking. Les and Marg went on several cruises throughout the years. He always liked listening to upbeat, fast music, and was an avid roller-skater back in the 70’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ladislav Jr. and Doris Hursky; his brother, Ronnie Hursky; and by his nephew, Stephen Sundborg.
Les is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margery Hursky; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Roen; grandchildren, Carsen Roen, Trevor Roen, Audrey Roen; sister, Debbie Sundborg; sister-in-law, Bonnie Buckman; many cousins, nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
