Katie Marie Slingsby

Dr. Katie M. Slingsby (Rother), age 43, passed away on May 6, 2024.

Katie was born November 13, 1980 to Patricia and Duane Rother (Welch). She was the sister of Ben Rother. She grew up going to school at St. Joseph’s Catholic school through 3rd grade. She then transferred to Red Wing Public Schools going to Burnside, Twin Bluff and Red Wing High School. While there, she was active in Speech, NHS, Marching Band, and Concert Band. Outside of primary school, she was an active participant in the 4H Willing Welchers.

She went to undergraduate at College of St Benedict and got a degree in Natural Sciences. She received her DDS from the University of Minnesota, graduating in 2007. She was a dentist for more than 15 years mostly with Metro Dentalcare. She worked in offices in East St Paul, Apple Valley and for the past 10 years in South Minneapolis.

In 2005 she married her high school sweetheart, Karl Slingsby. They had one child (Nina) in 2008. They’ve lived in their south Minneapolis home since 2007. Katie loved crafting. She was an avid knitter, she was known for creating cute baby sweaters for friends and family. She also enjoyed baking from savory to sweet. She loved adventures and trying new things, baking, cooking, traveling, sight seeing. Her other hobbies included growing flowers and tending to her garden. She loved crafting, creativity, and caring about others. She loved her patients, coworkers, neighbors, friends, and family.

Katie is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary Ann and Raynard Rother, Louise and Joseph Fellman.

She is survived by her parents, Patricia and Duane Rother; brother, Ben (Vicki); husband, Karl; and daughter, Nina.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street, Hastings, MN 55033.

A celebration of life for Katie will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, 5300 10th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55417 with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
