Joseph R. "Joe" Huss

Joseph R. "Joe" Huss, age 80 of Apple Valley, died peacefully at Apply Valley Care Center on Monday morning, December 4, 2023.

Joseph Raymond, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Hoffman) Huss, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 26, 1943. Following his education, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force and was later granted an Honorable Discharge. On January 15, 1966, Joe was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Tix at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier. They were blessed with fifty-seven years of marriage, three children, and many memories over the years. Joe was a longtime commodity trader at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad where he was part of four mergers over the years. Throughout his life, Joe enjoyed coaching youth baseball, fastpitch softball, and hockey, as well as bass fishing, pheasant hunting, and golfing. In their retirement, Joe and Betty enjoyed wintering in the McGallon, Texas area, and spending summers at the lake home in Richmond, Minnesota. Joe was also known to have an award-winning Christmas light display over the years, often to the point that you couldn't run the microwave without blowing a fuse. Above all, Joe cherished the time spent with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joe is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Joseph Huss, Jason (Tammy) Huss, and Jessica (Robert) LeMay; grandchildren, Emily (Zach) Mitchell, Madisyn Huss, Samatha LeMay (Jameson Ryskoski), and Brennen LeMay; one future great grandchild, baby Mitchell due in February; sister, Mary Ann Glenn; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment with Military Honor's provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210, will follow at the parish cemetery.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, and for one hour prior to Mass, all at church.
