John D. Westley

John Dewey Westley was born on January 17, 1960 in Minneapolis, MN and passed away on October 1, 2023 in Tampa, FL. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dewey and Lorraine Westley. He is survived by his sisters, Nancy (Greg) Hultman, Sally (Rick) Schouveller, and Kathleen (Wade) Olsen, nieces and nephews Kristen, Trevor, Elizabeth, Joseph and Ryan.

After graduating from John F. Kennedy high school in Bloomington, MN John went to Mankato State University and received a bachelor's degree in construction management. While there he worked as a deejay for the school radio station. After graduation he went to work for Holman Steel Erection Company alongside his father for many years. He later moved to Florida and pursued his love for music as an Executive Producer livestreaming performances and working music festivals.

John had a lifelong passion for helping others. He delivered meals on Thanksgiving and was a volunteer for Big Brothers, and Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly. He established a Foundation that supported many worthwhile causes. He recently was involved in Veterans charities in Florida. John was an avid sports fan. He played golf, tennis, softball and soccer as an adult and watched sports whenever he could. John was a pet lover. Most recently he had his beloved companion Gaga, a red nosed bull terrier. John and Gaga sometimes stayed with his mother in her Bloomington home when he was in town. She really enjoyed the time with him.

John made many wonderful friends throughout his life including in high school, in college (Bag-ons), and softball (Tourists). He shared many adventures with his sisters. They enjoyed having him over to their houses where he spent time with his nephews, nieces, brother-in-laws and whoever else was there at the time.

John was compassionate, kind, witty and fun to be around. He will be missed. Thanks for the memories John.

There will be a Celebration of Life on November 7, 2023 at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, 5300 10th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55417. Visitation at 10 a.m., Service at 11 a.m. Coffee and desserts to follow.
