Jareen L. (Johnson) Doffing

Jareen L. Doffing, a longtime resident of Hastings, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday evening, May 2, 2023, at the age of 83.

Jareen Lynn, the daughter of Theron and Ruby (Crosby) Johnson, was born on March 3, 1940, in Park Rapids, Minnesota. In 1956, her family moved to Hastings and she later graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1958. In 1960, Jareen was united in marriage to Richard "Duff" Doffing and they were blessed with two sons prior to his sudden passing in 1979. Jareen graduated from Cosmetology School in 1972 and was a longtime beautician and co-owner of Hastings Beauty Salon with Ruth Bremer. Later in 1984, Jareen returned to her employment at Dakota County Abstract until her retirement when she then enjoyed helping her son Rene at Duff's Tavern in Vermillion. Outside of work, Jareen loved to travel with family and friends, and even zip lined in her late 70's in Mexico! She was also actively involved at the Hastings Legion where she enjoyed volunteering in the Auxiliary and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings. Jareen was a proud 50-plus year cancer survivor and participated in many cancer walks over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duff; and by her siblings, Jan (Don) Fiskum and Jay Johnson.

Jareen is survived by her sons, Randall "Randy" (Sharon) Doffing and Rene (Cindy) Doffing; grandchildren, Karissa (Kyle Swanson) Doffing, Tace (Ashley) Doffing, and Tavis Doffing; her devoted companion of 43 years, Fred Serres; and numerous relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Jareen's Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Catholic Cemetery in Hastings.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and to a reception immediately following the service, all at the funeral home on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Alzheimers and Dementia research in memory of Jareen.
