Janice Mary Beissel

Janice M. Beissel, age 68, of Hastings, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She faced an aggressive form of cancer with incredible grace and strength.

Janice was born on November 29, 1956, in Red Wing, MN, to Joseph and Odelia (Endres) Schiller. She grew up in Miesville, where she was active in 4H, known for her creativity and love of crafts, always excited to share her projects at the county fair. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1974.

In 1988, fate stepped in when Janice was set up on a blind date with Duane Beissel, a Vermillion local who quickly realized she was everything he had been hoping for. It was love at first sight, and the two married in 1990. Together, they raised three boys, twins Tom and Nick, and their younger brother Steven. Family meant everything to Janice. Whether she was cheering on her boys, spoiling her grandkids, or finding the perfect treasure at a garage sale, her love and warmth always shone through.

Janice had a creative spirit and a knack for making things beautiful. Crocheting, scrapbooking, and crafting were some of her favorite hobbies. She and Duane also shared a love of adventure, occasionally taking weekend getaways to cozy bed and breakfasts across Minnesota. Her faith and church community were a big part of her life, and her kindness, down-to-earth wisdom, and joyful spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Janice is survived by her loving husband, Duane; sons, Tom (Grace), Nick (Nicole), and Steven (Ali) Beissel; and her three adored grandchildren, Lydia, Elsie, and Lila. She is also survived by her siblings, Dick (Judith) Schiller, Sister Sharon Schiller, Fritz Schiller, and Joan Norgon, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kevin Schiller; and in-laws, Mike Norgon and Dianne Schiller.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 106 Main St W, Vermillion, MN 55085. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before Mass, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with a reception afterward at the church.
