Janet M. Kane

Janet M. Kane, age 62, of Austin, TX and Hastings, MN, passed away July 4, 2022. Janet was born on July 20, 1959 in Rochester, MN to Jacqueline and Joseph Kane. She grew up in Hastings, MN with her 6 siblings. She loved summers at the local pool, biking, playing sports, camping, fishing and being with family and friends. Janet was very involved in sports and had a vibrant social life at Hastings High School, graduating in 1977. After graduating, Janet began her career at 3M where she remained until her retirement in 2017. She spent her adulthood living in Austin, TX and St Paul, MN where she built a strong community of friends. Janet loved bowling and was one of the Minnesota Vikings’ biggest fans. She had the pleasure of being an aunt to 13 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews. Although she had no children she treated all her nieces and nephews as her own; staying in touch with them, doting on them with gifts and attending their functions when she could. Janet bravely fought and survived breast cancer in 2013 and participated in Race for the Cure. After her retirement, Janet moved back to Austin, TX. She would return to Minnesota to spend time up north with her family every summer. It brought her so much happiness to be out on the lake fishing or spending the day floating in the water. She would play games late into the night where her famous laugh could be heard by anyone nearby. Janet was known by friends and family as an amazing cook and had a love for good food. She had a fondness for some Minnesota specialties like McNamara corn and Minnesota grown apples, that she would always bring back to Austin after her visits home to share with friends. Janet was incredibly generous with a huge heart. She lived a very full life always surrounded by those she cared most for. Janet was always up to have fun and loved the 4th of July so it was only fitting that she took her last breaths on this day. Shine bright, Janet. Holla!! She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph; brother, John; and grandparents. Janet is survived by her mom, Jackie; brothers, Jerry (Shannon), Bill (Dawn) and David (Jodie); sisters, Dorothy (John) Schuweiler and Donna (Dan) Welshons; many nieces and nephews; and John Graves. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St. in Hastings. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.
