James L. Buffo, age 79, of Rosemount, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 17, 1945, in Joliet, Illinois, he was the son of James and Harriet (Belange) Buffo. Jim was a proud graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and went on to attend Saint Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota, where he excelled both academically and athletically. It was in Winona that he met his wife, Sharon. They married on August 2, 1968, and together raised two children, Shannon and Jim.
An athlete at heart, James excelled in basketball and baseball during his years at St. Mary's. Known for his integrity, loyalty, and patience, he was a straight shooter who valued quality in all aspects of life. Although he maintained a modest circle of friends, those fortunate to be considered a friend cherished his friendship deeply.
Jim had a distinguished career in education, serving as a teacher, principal, and administrator in Joliet, Illinois, and Hastings, Minnesota. In 1984, the Buffo family relocated from Joliet to Hastings, where Jim continued to build his legacy in the community. After retiring, Jim spent his time working at golf courses in both Minnesota and Florida. He found peace and joy on the course, often enjoying the outdoors, walking along the beach, admiring the ocean, and indulging in his love of reading.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon; his children, Shannon (Mark) Masters and Jim (Allison) Buffo; and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nick, Ryan, Tyler, and Calvin. He is also survived by extended family, including Mark (Kristina) Shirley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Harriet Buffo, and his sisters, Judith Tezak and Mary Kernosky.
A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, located at 3075 Vermillion St, Hastings, MN 55033.
