Irene Smith

Irene Smith, 95, of Hampton passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 3, 2022 at Regina Care Center in Hastings. She was born on July 31, 1927 to George and Rose (Taube) Landsberger of New Trier.

On June 25, 1946 she married Bernard Smith in Hampton, where they raised their five children. Irene was dedicated to raising her family and participating in the church circles and other church activities throughout her entire life. She loved to garden and cook and bake, always trying new recipes. She was a caring and loving grandma and great-grandma who found great joy in spending time with the family, always inquisitive about what was going on in their lives.

After Bernard retired, they enjoyed traveling with family and enjoyed getting together to play cards with different friends and family. She was a caring, strong and loving person who will be greatly missed.

Irene is survived by her children, Charles (Linda) Smith, Joe (Jackie) Smith, Mary (Tom) Erickson, Ray (Chris) Smith; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Victoria Landsberger and by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; son and daughter-in-law, James and Mari Smith; grandchildren, Patrick Smith, Jeffrey Smith and Nathan Smith and her four siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday, September 24 at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton with visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will be in the St. Mathias Catholic Church Cemetery. Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel is assisting the family.
