Herbert A. Kapsner

Herbert Kapsner, age 87, of Hastings, MN passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023 following a battle with dementia.

Herbert August was born in Little Falls, MN on November 21, 1935 to Michael and Caroline (Wacker) Kapsner. The tenth of eleven children, Herb was raised in Hillman, MN, moving to Hastings at the age of 19. He was united in marriage to Marie Marketon on August 29, 1964 in Waverly, MN. They resided in Hastings and raised 4 children together.

Herb served in the Army Reserve and Minnesota Air National Guard for a period of 26 years, retiring from the military in 1995. During those years, he also worked as a carpenter and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Meldan Kapsner, Rita Thomas, Helen Dupont, Florence Husnik, Gertrude Husnik, Stella Cardinal, Lorene Bauer and Viola Bauer.

Herb is survived by wife of 58 years, Marie; children, Tami (Dave) Kortum of Hudson, WI, Denise (Jim) McNamara of Hastings, Scott Kapsner of Hastings and David (Sandi) Kapsner of Randolph; grandchildren, Michael Kapsner (fiancee Brittany Sticha), Jay Kapsner, Sandra Latch, Ellie McNamara, Tom McNamara and Joe McNamara; great granddaughters, Piper and Elaina; siblings, Alice Lange and Virgil Kapsner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St. W. in Hastings. A visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at church with a reception following mass. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
