Helen Anna (Bauer) Peine, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 12, 2022, at Regina Nursing Home in Hastings, Minnesota. She was born on July 21, 1927, in Marshan Township to Ferdinand and Anna (Meier) Bauer. She grew up on the family farm and also helped with their masonry business. She also spent a great deal of time babysitting her many nieces and nephews. This all prepared her well for her marriage to John Peine on October 12, 1949, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion. They soon settled on their farm near Cannon Falls and lived there until the past year when they moved to Regina Assisted Living in Hastings. They raised eight children together. She was a mother, homemaker, 11-gallon blood donor, and long-time volunteer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Trier. She loved playing card games, especially Hand and Foot. She enjoyed traveling with John, sewing, needlework, quilting, baking, cooking, gardening, and canning. Her dill pickles were so popular with her grandchildren that they included them on their Christmas wish lists! She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen is survived by her loving husband of almost 73 years, John; children, Jim (Sandy), Joyce (Bob) McBeath, Gery (Joni), Renee Davis, Joanne (Chris) Ruttger, Roger (Julie), Jeff, and Sue (fiancé Jeremy Seykora); 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Kimmes, Suzie DuShane, Emma Doyle, and Tillie Johnson; brother- and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Lenore Peine; sisters-in-law, Pat Bauer, Lorraine Peine, Karleen Peine, and Jan Weber; and brother-in-law, Ron Greene. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tony, Mike, Matt, Nick, Leo, and Andy; sisters, Margaret and Rose Becker; and grandchildren, Kevin, Craig, and Noelle. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Trier, on Monday, August 15, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
