Geraldine "Gerry" Schmidt

Geraldine "Gerry" Schmidt, age 88 of La Crescent and formerly of Minneapolis, died peacefully at SpringBrook Village of La Crescent on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2025.

Geraldine "Gerry" Merle Maynard Schmidt, born on September 19, 1936, to Ronald Maynard and Dorothy Kateley Maynard, passed away peacefully in La Crescent, Minnesota. Gerry grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated from Minneapolis Central High School. In 1956, she married Henry Schmidt, with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing.

A devoted member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Minneapolis, Gerry found joy and solace in her faith and church community. An enthusiastic traveler, Gerry delighted in exploring the United States through numerous trips and train excursions. Her adventures were lovingly documented in her photo albums, preserving the memories of her journeys for years to come. In 2018, Gerry moved to La Crescent, Minnesota, where she lived at Traditions Assisted Living and later SpringBrook Village. She was deeply appreciative of the compassionate care provided by the staff at both facilities and treasured the special friendship of Judy, whose kindness brought comfort to her final years, and Aubrey and Paige with Moments Hospice.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Dorothy Maynard; her husband, Henry Schmidt; and all her aunts and uncles. She is survived by her cousins Sharon Kateley Kuschel of Huron, South Dakota; Gary (Donna) Kateley of Onalaska, Wisconsin; and Diane (Kevin) Kateley Carter of Minneapolis, Minnesota. A Celebration of Gerry's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, 14850 Garrett Avenue, of Apple Valley. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025.
