Fabian Smith

September 27, 1989 — April 21, 2023

Fabian Romine Smith, age 33, passed away unexpectedly on April 21st in Moreno Valley, California. He is preceded in death by his parents Mark Sr. and Vera, and grandparents Abe and Emilia Candelaria, and Wendell and Irma Smith.

Fabian is survived by his girlfriend, Vanessa; children, Maddi and Elijah; brothers, Mark (Kendra) and Michael; step-father, Dennis; God parents, Chad and Sarah; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other friends and family.

Fabian was born in Phoenix, AZ and spent the majority of his childhood and young adult years in Hastings, MN. He was the youngest of his siblings and was given the nickname Faby Baby, which he proudly used even as an adult. He was carefree, adventurous, and always tried to make things fun and happy. He had a charming smile, quick wit, and a huge heart that made him not only the life of the party, but a true friend to so many. The bonds he created with his group of friends growing up were so strong that they truly became family.

Fabian played sports starting at a young age and was a natural athlete, but if there was a trophy for biggest social butterfly he would have won that hands down. He loved being surrounded by friends, was constantly laughing, joking, and was always willing to listen and offer a shoulder to cry on. He genuinely cared about other people and often put their interests before his own.

Because of his genuine personality and zest for life children were instantly drawn to him. In fact if you were looking for him at a party or gathering you just had to look for all of the kids and Fabian was sure to be the one entertaining them. Fabian had an incredible bond with his nephew Zeke and always made sure he was included and felt loved. He did this naturally and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and special when they were around him.

His faith was very important to him and when things weren't going well in life he always trusted God would get him through it and hopefully use his struggle to help someone else. He was recently baptized and was extremely excited and proud of this. He had been working the steps in his recovery and felt lead to someday become a sponsor to help other addicts. Fabian always wanted to better his mind, body, and spirit and was very proud of the progress he had recently made.

Unfortunately he never wanted people to worry, so he didn't speak much of the battles he was fighting, or the pain and suffering he was enduring throughout his journey during the horrible drug epidemic that continues to impact so many families. Now his soul is finally at peace and maybe his story can help someone else, which is what he always wanted to do.

A funeral service will be held in Minnesota later this summer. Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel is assisting the family
