Ernest M. Duffing

Ernest Matthew Duffing, age 84, of Hastings, passed away at home with family on Tuesday, February 14th, 2023.

Ernest was born on January 28, 1939, to Charles and Carmen Duffing in their home in Red Wing, MN, the second oldest of 5 children. He graduated from Red Wing Central High in 1957 and received his bachelor’s degree from the U of M. While in high school, he joined the navy and served in the naval air. After the service he met and married Gloria Reinardy. They settled in Hastings to raise their 5 children. They were married for 55 years. He retired from the U of M after 35 years as a computer programmer analyst.

Ernest was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Over the years he served on the school board and parish council, and in later years was involved in other volunteer jobs at the church. He was a beloved husband, father, and son. All will remember him as spiritual, kind, generous, and witty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Carmen Duffing; 2 brothers and 2 sisters; daughter-in-law, Amy; and other relatives.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Dean (Kris), Mark (Amy), Wendy (John), Kent (Mandy), and Jason (Amanda); 14 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (2/24) at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St. W. in Hastings. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior to mass at church. Interment, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.
