Elizabeth "Liz" A. Johnson

Elizabeth “Liz” A. Johnson, age 76, of Hastings, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Stonehaven of Eagan Senior Living.

 Liz was born on May 22, 1948, in Dubuque, Iowa, to William and Dorothy (Welsh) Spahn Jr. She married the love of her life, Stephen Johnson, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure, raising two children, Mark and Anne.

 Liz had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her warmth and kindness made her the heart of her family and a friend to all. She spent many years as a dedicated registered nurse, caring for others with compassion. She spent the majority of her career at the University of St. Thomas where she made many, many friends. At home, her passion for quilting filled her days, so much so that she had a room dedicated to her craft, creating beautiful quilts that her family will cherish forever.

 Family was everything to Liz. She found immense joy in being present for her children and grandchildren, rarely missing a game, concert, or special moment. She was their biggest fan and fiercest supporter, always encouraging them to do their best. Though she lovingly worried, especially with Steve’s career as a police officer, her concern was a reflection of her deep love and devotion.

Liz also had a love for travel, exploring new places with Steve by her side. Ireland was a favorite destination and her memories of those trips were ones she held close to her heart. She also loved the yearly trips to the lake where she could spend an entire week with family, laughing, eating, and playing games. No matter where life took her, Liz’s greatest happiness came from time spent with the people she loved most.

 She will be deeply missed by her husband Steve, her children Mark (Jennifer) Johnson and Anne (Paul) Hofstad, and her grandchildren Wesley, Claire, and Jacob. She is also survived by her siblings Tim (Deb) Spahn, Sue (Joe) Letourneau, Pat (Barb Meemken) Spahn, and Katie (Mark) Lamkin, sister-in-law Patty Spahn and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Mike Spahn.

 A celebration of Liz’s life will be held at a later date.
