Dorothy M. McCarthy

Dorothy M. McCarthy, age 85, of Hastings, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning February 15th, 2025 at Regina Care Center, Hastings, MN.

Dorothy was born on the family farm, just south of DeGraff, MN, to Leander and Margaret Diederich on the 24th of December, 1939. She was her parents' first Christmas present to each other.

She graduated from Benson High School in May 1957. She went on to earn a LPN Nursing diploma from Willmar School of Practical ,Nursing in Willmar, MN, in June 1958. Dorothy finished her nursing career working for Regina Medical Hospital, Hastings, MN for the last 30 years, working a long time in the OB/GYN (baby center) retiring in April 2005.

Dorothy is proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Everett; son, William; parents, Leander & Margaret; and brother, Jerome.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Robert (Michelle) McCarthy, Gerald (Terri) McCarthy, Edward (Denise) McCarthy, Evelyn (Bruce) Moore, Kenneth McCarthy, Julie McCarthy, Eugene (Irisha) McCarthy; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ann Krueger, Daniel (Mary Lou) Diederich, Theresa (Darold) Johnson, Loretta (Roger) Floyd, Delores (Robert) Cook, Cherilyn Klassen, Monica (Dean) Heike, Janet (Bill) Ross; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St W, Hastings, MN, with a visitation from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass at church.

Arrangements are being handled by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings.
