Cora Mae Hansen, age 100, of Hastings, formerly of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Bemidji Minnesota, and Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023 at Hastings Senior Health and Living.
Cora Mae was born on May 1, 1923 in Bygland, Minnesota to Daniel and Matilda Danielson. She attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks, ND and worked as a legal secretary after graduating. She was also in the Navy from 1944-1946 and later worked as a church secretary at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks.
Cora Mae was crazy for her husband, Bob, who she married on September 30, 1950. She and Bob retired to their lake home on Lake Bemidji where they both enjoyed regularly playing golf and entertaining family and friends. Cora Mae was an excellent host and baker and made delicious meals, soups, pies, lefse, and cinnamon rolls. She and Bob often traveled to Las Vegas and Colorado in their early retirement years. They were married for 67 years. Cora Mae and Bob moved to Hastings in 2009 to be closer to family. Cora Mae loved her family, loved animals and was kind to everyone she met. She walked every day of her life well into her 80s.
Cora Mae is survived by her daughter Jan (Lee) Samson, sons Rob (Laurie) Hansen, and Ron (Jamie) Hansen; 6 grandchildren Kristi (Brad) Dingman, Stacey (Charlie) Ripka, Jessi (Nick) Angerman, Stephanie (Randy) Foss, Rob (Kayla) Hansen, and Rachel (Jude) Hansen, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Matilda, husband Bob, sisters Orva Bridgeford and Sylvia Franklin, and brothers Truman and Odell Danielson.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday June 27, 2023 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel with visitation on hour prior to the service. Future private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to the Humane Society or Hastings Animal Ark.
