Charles F. Schaffer, age 85 of Hampton, passed away at Regions Hospital on Saturday, May 28, 2022. He was born on April 5, 1937 in Hampton, Minnesota to John & Marie (Weiland) Schaffer at the family house where Charles still lived. He attended school and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in New Trier. Charles was drafted into the United States Army in 1960 and honorably served his country. On June 22, 1963 he married Mary DeGross at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Farmington and together had their four children. Charles spent his whole life farming and trucking and enjoyed every bit of it. He also started Schaffer Truck Lines. He worked hard his whole life and attended church every Sunday. Mary and Charles would enjoy church dinners at numerous churches in the area, and traveling with the two-cylinder John Deere club. Charles loved his family and will be remembered for his work ethic and "doing it right". He is survived by his wonderful wife of 58 years, Mary; children, Rhonda Schaffer, CaSondra (Joseph Siebenaler) Schaffer, Craig & Carrie (Tate) Schaffer; grandchildren, Ethan & Emily (Sperry) Schaffer, Weston Ledman, Alex Schaffer, Levi Schaffer, Kraig Schaffer, Claudia Schaffer, Samuel Schaffer; great-grandchildren, Parker Vargas; siblings, John and Ruth, with other relatives and friends Charles was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles John Schaffer; and other siblings. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Cemetery in Hastings with military honors. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and to a reception immediately following the Mass, all at church on Friday.
