Anna Margaret Samson

January 8, 1928 — March 2, 2023

Anna Margaret Samson passed away peacefully at Hastings Senior Health and Living on March 2, 2023. She was 95 years old.

Margaret was born in Mountain, North Dakota on January 8th, 1928 to Sigurder and Carolina (Simundson) Bjornson. Margaret graduated from Mountain High School and then attended Wesley College in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where she graduated with degree’s in Music and Piano. She married Sig Samson in Mountain, North Dakota on September 6, 1947. They purchased and lived on the Samson Family Farm and farmed for seventeen years. They then moved several times, ending in Grand Forks where they raised their five boys. Upon their retirement, they moved back to the Samson farm. They enjoyed many years of farming and traveling, hosting family reunions, visiting family in California and vacationing in Hawaii. Sig passed away in 1998 and Margaret remained on the farm for an additional 15 years. During that time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, and hosting many holidays, and visits to the centennial farm. She remained active with her church as the organist, and also played the piano with a band performing for local assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Margaret moved to Hastings, Minnesota in 2013 to be close to her son, Lee, and his family. She became great friends with Lee’s mother and father in law, Bob and Cora Mae Hansen, who lived just a few doors down from her. They enjoyed years of happy hours where Margaret played piano (with Roger on guitar), bingo, and helping babysit their great-grandchildren. Margaret was a strong, loving, and involved mother, a master pianist, and an amazing hostess, regularly welcoming family and friends into her home. She was bilingual in Icelandic and English, with Icelandic being her first learned language. She loved to share her Icelandic heritage by making vinaterta (Icelandic prune cake) and serving it with strong, hot coffee. The family enjoyed trips to Queen Valley, Arizona and Bigsby, Oklahoma, where Margaret was able to spend time with her boys. She was very proud of her family and was especially proud of her sons. She took pride in sharing how much her family meant to her. Margaret was dearly loved and will be missed by many.

Margaret is survived by her four sons, Lee (Jan), Terry, Carlo (Kim), and Curtis (Rhonda); eleven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Sig and Joe, sister Eileen, husband Sig, and son Randy.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at Starkson Family Life Chapel on Wednesday, March 8th at 11am, with a visitation one hour prior. A reception will follow the service. Interment will take place in Mountain, North Dakota at a later date.
