Lexi Nauer, age 19 of Vermillion, died peacefully at M Health Fairview Medical Center with her loving family at her side on Friday evening, December 15, 2023, following a sudden cardiac event just five days prior to her passing.
Alexandria Jeanne, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Beissel) Nauer, was born on August 7, 2004, in Hastings. After her arrival, it was discovered Lexi was born with congenital heart defects and was faced with her first open heart surgery at six months old, and another just before the the age of four. Throughout all those difficulties, Lexi accepted her limitations and lived life with courage and grace. What her heart lacked in function, she certainly made up for in her capacity to love and believe in others.
Lexi attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School through sixth grade, and graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 2022. Her love for animals was certainly a big part of her life, especially for horses, dogs, and cats. Lexi cherished the time spent with little kids, and was especially thankful for the time spent helping with Sunday School at St. John's. She loved spending time with friends around the bonfire or even the Walmart parking lot, playing board games with her family, and was rarely without a favorite Carhartt hoodie. Most of all, we all know Lexi's smile could light up any room she would walk into, and her loyalty to those close to her was a bond that will never be forgotten.
We're thankful that Lexi was graciously welcomed home by many family members and friends that have gone before us.
Lexi is survived by her parents, Joe and Sarah; brothers, Joey, Isaac, and Johnathan; grandparents, Arnold & Joyce Nauer, Floyd Beissel, and Laurie (Otto) Potthoff; aunts and uncles, Kim Nauer, Chris Nauer, Ryan (Stacy) Beissel, and Kristin (Lance) Poellinger; cousins, Matt Beissel, Kiley Beissel, Lucas Poellinger, and Kira Poellinger; and by her many extended family members and dear friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Private family interment will be held at a later date.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, and from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
